Stephen Chen
Managing Director
Stephen Chen brings over 16 years of experience in the IT industry. Prior to founding SEC Ventures, Stephen was a co-founder of Embark.com – the market leading web site for making the transition to higher education. While at Embark he drove revenue from 0 to $10M+ and established Embark as a market leader that received numerous industry awards and recognition including Upside’s Hot 100 Private Companies (1999 & 2001), PC Magazine’s Editor’s Choice (2000), Forbes Best (2000), and CIO Magazine’s Top 50 Web Business (1999). Stephen was instrumental in raising $42M in venture and angel financing and provided leadership when the company grew from 5 co-founders to over 200 employees.
Prior to Embark, Stephen was an early employee of Seer Technologies, where he was a product manager, senior consultant and client engagement manager. Seer was a joint venture between IBM and Credit Suisse First Boston that grew to become a market leader in enterprise n-tier client/server application development tools. The company grew from its founding in 1990 to $117M in revenues and 850 people in 12 countries in 1996.
